Mark Pennington, industrial designer

Mark Pennington was a student from 1963-1966 and staff member from 1974-1988, including ten years as head of industrial design.

He is now design director and consultant for Formway Design, a Petone business respected as a major global player in the design of inspirational, leading edge high performance office seating and furniture.

Mark’s design accomplishments with Formway Furniture include the ZAF and LIFE chairs, and the FREE system workstation—all three of which have won prestigious awards both in Australasia and internationally. Mark has consulted for, among others, Philips Electrical, Caltex, Whirlpool, the Ministry of Transport, Citinet Corporation and Methven, on a wide range of design issues. Mark was a member of the New Zealand Government’s Design Taskforce—the formative and strategic body behind Better by Design.
