Collette Dinnigan, fashion designer

Collette Dinnigan is a global fashion phenomenon.

The Australia-based fashion designer studied fashion design at the Wellington Polytechnic School of Design. After graduating in 1984 she moved to Australia and initially worked in the costume department for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation before realising her ambition and establishing her own label in 1990.

With a desire to create clothes that women would want to wear, combined with the skills she learnt at polytechnic, her stylish clothes were immediately popular and in 1995 she became the first Australian based designer invited to show in Paris. Collette has received international business and fashion acclaim and in 2005 was honoured with a stamp issue by Australian Post as part of their Australian legends campaign.

Collette’s label has evolved and now spans everything from lingerie, to leisurewear, to bridal couture. Her colourful feminine creations are sold in stores around the world and worn by stars such as Angelina Jolie and Naomi Watts.
